Random Musings:

Kick out the Jams I don’t know as much about the band MC5 as I should. I know they are regarded as one of the most influential rock bands of all-time. I knew the song Kick out the Jams, but nothing else from this album. I really dig it and I can hear the influence they had on hard rock bands, punk and metal bands. It’s an A tier album for now but maybe it will move to an S tier after I digest it some more.

ContrastThere are two albums for this month that are often ranked in the top 500 albums of all-time, MC5 – “Kick Out The Jams and The Flying Burrito Brothers” – “The Gilded Palace of Sin”. These albums couldn’t be more different. After listening to the intense, raw and heavy “Kick Out The Jams” album, “The Gilded Palace of Sin” was a nice change of pace – a mellow, strumming country-rock classic.

A Disappointing GoodbyeCream wasn’t around long, but they made a huge impact on the rock world. They had 3 classic albums in the late 60’s – “Fresh Cream”, “Disraeli Gears”, and “Wheels of Fire”. And then there is the album “Goodbye”. One side of the album is live recordings and the other side has 3 studio recordings. Not bad songs but nothing close to their 3 previous masterpieces. This doesn’t take away from how great influential Cream is but “Goodbye” is certainly dissapointing.
