Hidden Gems: While this month lacks any top 500 albums of all-time, or any albums I would rate as an A, this month really surprised me with a couple of great hidden gems. I usually only have one album as my Album Rewind Pick of the Month, but I had to go with two albums this month – Joe Cocker’s With a Little Help from My Friends and Johnny Winter’s self-titled album. I knew the two hit’s from Joe Cocker’s album, but that’s it. I didn’t know any of the songs on Johnny Winter’s album. I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed listening to both albums. Filled with a great mix of rock, soul and blues, these will be albums I will return to.
Dylan: I like Nashville Skyline, but I don’t love it. Dylan had quite the run of classic albums in the 1960’s. This is attempt at a country album, and he succeeds at that without a doubt. There are a couple of all-time classics on this album, but just a few too many ok songs to be considered an A album for me. With that said, Dylan is hands down one of my all-time favorite artists and I do love that he isn’t satisfied with playing the same genre of music over and over.
