Music news for September 1967
The Doors appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show. The Doors were banned from ever appearing on the show again as Jim Morrison did not change the words “Girl we couldn’t get much higher” on the song Light My Fire. The Who destroyed their instruments during a performance on the Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour.

Multiple releases: The music business was much different in the 1960’s than it is today. One of the biggest differences is bands like the Doors had 2 albums released in the same year. In 1967 The Doors released their debut album in January and their second album, Strange Days, in September of 1967. The Beatles, Beach Boys and Jimi Hendrix also had 2 albums in 1967.
These artists had ok albums but smash hits this month: Van Morrison – Brown Eyed Girl, The Beach Boys – Good Vibrations
I need to take a deeper dive into these artists: Procol Harum and Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band. I know Procol Harum from their huge hit, “A Whiter Shade of Pale”, but otherwise I’m not familiar with their catalog. I’ve heard of Captain Beefheart (how could you forget that name) but know very little about the band. In both cases, I like what I heard from their releases this month and need to listen to more.
