From blues band to pop/rock band: Fleetwood Mac. Most people know Fleetwood Mac from their legendary pop rock songs and albums from the 70′, but early Fleetwood Mac was a great blues band. The 1968 debut album features original members, drummer Mick Fleetwood and bass player John McVie. Fleetwood and McVie are the only band members to be on every Fleetwood Mac album, starting with the early blues version of Fleetwood Mac to the later 70’s and 80’s pop rock version of Fleetwood Mac.

By the dock of the bay: A few years ago my two sons and I were on vacation in San Francisco. We took a guided tour. The tour guide stopped the van at a harbor in Sausalito California and started playing the classic song by Otis Redding, “(Sittin’ on) the Dock the of the Bay”. As he played the song he pointed over to a location, looking over a community of house boats, where Otis got the inspiration for and wrote the all-time classic song.

A true “Hidden Gem” : Tomorrow – Permanent Dream. I’ve never heard of this band, and I don’t think too many other people have either. It’s a solid psychedelic rock album with some garage rock sounds to it as well. Check this one out!

It doesn’t get much better than this song: Etta James – “I’d Rather Go Blind”. I’m listening to soul as much if not more than any other genre of music these days. “Id Rather Go Blind” is not only one of my favorite soul songs, it’s one of my favorite songs. To my ears it sure sounds like this influenced Chris Stapleton’s version of Tennessee Whiskey.
